If you would like to make sure that your mattress will last as long as possible, you will want to check out the following tips.

Rotate Your Mattress

It is important to make sure that you are rotating your mattress every couple of months. You will want to rotate it from head to foot. Then, if your mattress is double-sided, flip it over as well. Not all mattresses are double-sided, so if yours only has plush padding on one side, you will want to just stick with the rotating from head to foot.

Clean Stains Carefully

You want to make sure that you are cleaning stains properly. You will want to use a soft rag, mild soap, and water to clean any stains. It is best to steer clear of the harsh chemicals. This is because the chemicals can break down the integrity of the fabric. Then, before you know it, you will have thinned out fabric sections all over your mattress. Those thin spots may eventually become holes as you lay on the bed and put pressure on those spots.

Use A Mattress Cover

To reduce the number of stains that you have to deal with, you will want to invest in a good quality mattress cover. For a little extra comfort and protection, you can first put on a mattress pad and then the cover. This will give you extra padding and give you an extra bit of protection, because there is that much more material that liquid would have to go through before it could ever reach your mattress. Just make sure that the cover is at least washable so you can keep the surface nice and clean.

Don't Allow Any Jumping

Even though it might be a lot of fun for the kids, you will not want to allow anyone to jump on the mattress. Jumping on the mattress can easily cause damage to the springs. You could end up with lumpy spots or areas where you feel like you are sinking into the mattress. The jumping can also cause excessive damage to the fabric if the fabric has already seen better days. For the same reasons, you will want to avoid just standing on the mattress as well, because that is a lot of weight placed on one small section.

After reviewing the previously mentioned tips for caring for your mattress, you should have no problem protecting your mattress. This way, your current and future mattresses will last as long as possible before needing to be replaced.
